Curse of the Ninth

Soldered brass, 10 x 15 x 10, 2010.

Curse of the Ninth invokes the musical superstition that a composer is fated to die after completing their ninth symphony. The sculpture brings together a dynamic array of found and fabricated brass elements—including a horse-like figure, curved pipe elbows, a decorated circular cap, a heavy hex nut base, and a prominent metal numeral “9” reclining along the pedestal plane. Through this arrangement of industrial, acoustic, and symbolic forms, the work translates the weight of artistic mortality into a sculptural study of physical syntax.
