Soldered brass, 2009.

A low-slung, horizontal tabletop assemblage in soldered brass that investigates physical continuity, structural inheritance, and abstract narrative flow. Resting directly on the plinth without a pedestal, the sculpture links a series of distinct brass components along a crawling, angular vector. At one terminus, a cast Irish harp motif anchors the base, from which folded sheet metal planes, heavy hex-head cylinders, and a central ring washer rise and extend into a low horizontal tail. The title suggests both genealogical descent and formal artistic heritage, tracing a physical “line” constructed from disparate, inherited metal remnants.
Enveloped in a dark, blackened patina with subtle warm undertones and exposed solder joins, the work prioritizes profile, silhouette, and negative space. The prominent circular eyelet creates a focal aperture mid-composition, drawing the viewer’s gaze through the form rather than merely across its surface. By joining a traditional cultural emblem—the harp—with industrial brass hardware and bent sheet stock, Lineage bridges historical iconography with modernist open-form abstraction, offering a tactile meditation on how past traditions inform contemporary structure.
