The three Fates of Greek myth divide one task among sisters: Clotho spins the thread of a life, Lachesis measures it, and Atropos cuts it. The sculpture gives each an instrument. A rod curves like thread coming off a spindle. A flat bar pierced with a row of lozenges reads as a rule. A toothed disc is the blade. The three are fused into a single body that stands on its own legs.
