A domed lid carries a pipe that bends over at its end, which reads as a still. Below it a cylinder on small feet, plated and pierced for bolts, with two tap-like fittings under the lid, reads as a spirit safe. Bushmills is a distillery whose licence goes back to 1608. “Bathtub gin” was the Prohibition-era name for illicit homemade spirit. The sculpture makes the phrase literal in brass and sets the title’s famous licence over it. The oldest licensed distillery in the trade is given a bathroom still, and the taste on offer is the home-made one.
